Raspbian versions

Sat Nov 11, 2017 12:22 pm

hi all
as a newb to the pi i've come to a bit of a head banger
i want to install Mosquitto + websockets on my pi. i have installed NOOBS 2.4.4 (latest operating system) and from that Rasbian, all ok so far
i searched the web for Mosquitto installation methods, this is where the problem starts. all the instructions i have found quote Jessie, Wheezy or Stretch operating systems. Does anyone know which Debian (2.4.4) is.
Following this again from searching i believe that not all versions of Mosquitto and Libwwebsockets are compatible can someone also tell me which are compatible.
i did try downloading a version of the jessie image but this was failing when upgrading (sudo apt-get dist-upgrade) so i gave up on that one

any pointers or help would be much appreciated
Dave

NOOBS 2.4.4 is an O.S. installer, not the O.S. It will install the latest version of Raspbian (ie. Stretch) if that's what you tell it to do. (With an active network connection etc. and/or NOOBS full there may be other choices - I haven't used NOOBS for some time now, post "Etcher methods" of O.S. image installation, which are "cross-platform", NOOBS originally being developed for, mainly, Windows users for whom, at the time, the "disk image writing tools" available could be "flaky".)

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
