Robot platform compatibility

Sat Nov 04, 2017 2:45 am

Hi.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but would all basic robot platforms (chassis, wheels, motors) be compatible with the Pi?

I've been looking around and they all suggest different controllers, but am I right in thinking as long as I have an appropriate Pi motor controller they should all work.

I only want to start with a cheap platform while I learn, and don't want to waste money on the way.

Many thanks.

Your hunch is broadly correct: the controller should deal with many of the issues.

Some sensors etc intended for use with an Arduino will not necessarily be directly compatible with an RPi due to differences in logic voltage.

Maybe this Kickstarter is exact what are you asking for:

Battery, motors and sensors. Plus a complete platform to start on Electronics using the Raspberry as main brain.
