5 volt relay with only 2 inputs

Tue Aug 29, 2017 3:22 pm

Hi, I have bought a relay board 5V DC One 1 Channel Relay Module for Arduino Raspberry Pi Pic AVR UK

However there are only 2 input terminals GND and UCC. All the articles I see require three wires.
How can I wire this up to operate please

Hi.

It sounds like you have purchased just a relay on a board with no driver circuitry, my be if you post a link to were you got it or a good quality picture we might be able to confirm what you have purchased.

So from what I can see from you picture it looks like this is some sort of timed relay, so powering it will result in it activating for the time set by the jumpers and the trim pot.

This is not a general purpose relay board that you might switch via the gpio on your pi, but rater a specialist relay board that does its own timing once powered. have you just tried apply 5v to the terminals and seeing what the relay does ?

if you wanted to activate this from your pi it would be possible but you would need to use a transistor to allow the gpio to switch the 5v to power the relay, the relay would then just do what ever it has been set up to do with no control over it by the pi.

That is a time delay relay. Probably not what you wanted. When power is applied to the input the relay will operate after a delay. Time delay is adjusted by a pot on the board.

This is a similar board. Watch the YT link to see how these operate. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Delay-Timer ... 2548.l4275
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Many thanks for that.
I will hang on to them. I have ordered some new ones. Fortunately they are fairly cheap and I bought them some time ago.

This looks like the 12v version with some explanation...
