Raspbian repository: SDL 2.0

Sat Aug 12, 2017 9:11 am

How can I find out who maintains the SDL 2.0 distribution at the repository (or at least send them a message)? I want to ensure that the version of SDL that will be available for Raspbian Stretch (presumably 2.0.5) will be built to support windowed operation on the Pixel desktop, as the current 2.0.2 does on Jessie. My application (BBC BASIC) relies on that support and I have received contradictory information at the SDL forum as to the likelihood of it being maintained.

FYI Pixel Desktop has been obsoleted, to be replaced by ""Raspberry Pi Desktop powered by Raspbian""

Whatever. It makes no difference to my question: BBC BASIC needs to run in windowed mode on whatever desktop comes with Raspbian Stretch, and that relies on SDL 2.0 being built to support that capability (basically it means enabling the X11 backend, I think).

libsdl2 comes straight from the Raspbian / Debian repo
Info for that package is at https://packages.debian.org/stretch/libsdl2-2.0-0

OK, that's helpful, thanks. It answers some of the questions raised at the SDL forum (the stretch version says 'compiled with X11 and Wayland graphics' whilst the jessie version says 'compiled with X11, caca and DirectFB graphics'). I'll post an update there.

Meh, don't count version will change anytime soon, as many certain other libraries, applications.

Return to “Raspberry Pi OS”
