Peephole Camera on Raspberry

Wed Aug 09, 2017 1:21 pm

Hello,
as the title suggests I want to buy a peephole camera which connects to my rpi3.
But the problem is that the only cameras I found online haven't USB.
So I have done a little research and came across capture cards (like ezcap). Now I just wanted to order but luckily I discovered that it seems that the camera video output doesn't connect to the capture card...

Camera I am interested in:

or would it be possible to buy this type and just use a male connector cable to the capture card?

Thank you!

Digitizing analog video is not so simple for the Pi.

I have been using the Pi-Cam-Web interface and an original Pi IR camera. The camera does not fit into an peephole. But my suggestion is still to go with a PiZero + Cam module. There is a very cool camera enclosure called SmartiPi flex that is currently on Kickstarter. I am not a backer myself but in the past I got 2 SmartiPi Touch enclosures from the same guy who runs the SmartiPi flex project right now.

See https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/79 ... spberry-pi

The reason why I see this as a good alternative is the features in the software.
- automatic motion detection from the camera picture
- automatic screenshots/film clips when someone moves in the capture area
- web page exported over WiFi so you can view the camera on your phone, tablet of computer
- the code for running the camera is free!

thank you for your response!

well the problem I have with the projects I have seen so far using a camera is that they have bad quality and lose a lot of area (sry for my bad english, it isn't my native language, hopefully the message will come across)..

wouldn't the same pro's you mentioned work with the video capture card?

No. The software I mentioned works with the Pi cam only. A Pi camera has good resolution compared to old composite video cameras. I bough a camera with a wide angle 160 degree lens that is great for a door camera.
