Retropie lr-tyrquake input problem

Hello everyone,
I recently installed lr-tyrquake on my Pi. The problem is that every keypress seems to be registering twice (from the keyboard).
So if I press the down arrow in the menu, it moves down TWO positions. This is really annoying and makes the game unplayable. Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Turns out that lr-tyrquake does not ignore normal keyboard input. Any I have keyboard keys as retroarch controls, so it gets both events. This can be fixed by setting the retroarch controls in the quake retroarch.cfg to something else that does not conflict with the standard keyboard controls.
