Upgrade of apt-get versions of gphoto2 and libgphoto2

Mon Jun 19, 2017 2:51 pm

Hello,

The apt-get versions of gphoto2 and libgphoto2 are quite old on Raspbian Jessie. I would like to know where I can ask if it is planned to upgrade those packages.

Thank you in advance !

Raspbian packages rarely jump ahead of Debian, especially given that Stretch is not far off.

Thank you for your answer.

Do you think that gphoto2 and libgphoto2 will be upgraded on Stretch?

I see here http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian/po ... g/gphoto2/ that version 2.5.11 (latest) is available but

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gphoto2
installs version 2.5.4-1. I also tried

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gphoto2=2.5.11
, but many dependencies cannot be met.

2.5.11 is what is in stretch, yes. Were you hoping for something newer?

No 2.5.11 is fine. Currently it is 2.5.4-1 on Jessie.

When will Stretch be released?

Shouldn't take too long, but not before it's ready.

OK, do we talk in days, weeks or months?

Is there a mailing list to be informed when it will be available?

Yes
(sorry, I know that's not helpful)

No mailing list. I suspect there will be a bit of noise about it on the forum, possibly a blog post.

Sorry I didn’t know this information is a state secret ;-)

Thank you for your answers. I’ll wait for Stretch to be released then.

It's not a state secret, but announcing these things in advance just makes extra work for the foundation. We are used t things arriving when they arrive :-)

Now that Raspbian Stretch is released I was able to install gphoto2 2.5.11-1. Is it planned to upgrade to version 2.5.14-1? I see that the files are available http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian/po ... g/gphoto2/, but the following command doesn’t work:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gphoto2=2.5.14-1

Usually the Raspbian version used by the RPF follows Debian Stable ie Stretch:

The newer version is in the 'Buster' repo. So, essentially the answer is yes, it will be upgraded... when Raspbian 'Buster' is released.
(more likely it will be a newer version as it will be a while before the Buster release will be frozen)

Return to “Raspbian”
