Motion image is too bright

Hello guys,

I got a new Rpi Zero + Rpi Cam module v2 (8Mpix Sony), running with motion (motion mmal). But I'm struggling with the settings of motion config. I don't know whre is the problem, but image is very bright at outside. In the room inside it is ok.

For comparison: raspistill -o image.jpg make great picture. Also my older Rpi model B with Camera module v1.3 make great output image from Motion.

Both configurations are the same:

auto_brightness off
brightness 0
contrast 0
saturation 0
hue 0

Even if I change auto_brightness to ON, it's not better.

Where could be the problem, pls?

Probably I got it. I set the resolution 1024x768 (the same as on my older Cam 1.3). With this resolution are images "over-lighted".
I tried now resolution 1024x640 and it's fine (ok, a bit dark ).

So "wrong" resolution caused this???? Why it's working on old camera?

Thanks for this. Mine was doing the same thing. I thought it was the driver. I had mine set at 1280x960 (because we all want the highest res possible right?). I changed it to 1024x640 and it seemed to work.

Same issue here. It doesn't make sense. Is highly dependant on resolution. eg
480p -> ok
1024x640 (note this 1.6 ratio is very odd) -> ok
800x600 -> OK
720p,1020p-> BROKEN

Note: you should not use "auto_brightness on" as the camera has an auto brightness feature implemented. This is said on the motion documentation. Setting it to on makes the image exposure to oscillate

This issue is the same regardless of motion version : 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2

I did not buy this camera in 2019 to use a resolution from the 90s

It seems to be a Motion problem, not a camera problem. If raspistill works OK, then the camera is fine.

yes, sure, problem is motion, sorry I was not explicit about it.
raspistill is working fine indeed
I fixed this by using the frontend motioneye (which uses motion as backend btw)
