JuiceSSH

Tue May 09, 2017 8:42 pm

See Connecting ... then after 2-3 minutes I see timeout. I can SSH OK to Pi Zero W from Mint box on same router. Checked setup a number of times. User is pi, password has been changed from raspberry, IP is 192.168.0.102, port is 22, Nickname is My Pi, Type is SSH. Don't know what to try next.

Is your phone connected to the same WiFi network as your Raspberry?

Yes, I see both on the same Netgear router. Pi shows up as pizero and IP 192.168.0.102 and the cell shows up as Android and a bunch of numbers and letters and IP 192.168.0.100 Both have MAC addresses.

Can you ping your phone from your RPi?

Try installing fing on your phone, can it see your RPi and scan the open ports on it?

Fing on Android will use JuiceSSH to connect when they're both installed.

JuiceSSH no work

Wed May 10, 2017 7:13 pm

First of all, I may be wrong. And this problem may be already known.
I have not been able to get JuiceSSH on a Android smartphone or tablet to fully connect a Pi Zero W. If I use a Raspberry Pi B+, with same SD card, no problem. JuiceSSH looks like it's going to connect, but then times out. Maybe the built in wi-fi of the Zero doesn't like JuiceSSH. However, I can SSH from the Pi Zero W to my router just fine. And see the Pi Zero terminal on my Mint box.

Please do not post duplicates.

Did you follow the advice / ideas that DL posted in your earlier thread?

You're right. Thanks. I was able to ping from tablet to Pi Zero. I'll continue with Fing.

Was able to ping tablet at 192.168.0.104 with Pi Zero W from 192.168.0.105
Fing is now on the tablet and running at same time as JuiceSSH. With Fing I can ping tablet from pi zero. But can't ping pi zero from the tablet.

Then you need to hit your home router with a very big stick. There may be a setting for whether machines connected on the network can do more than just connecting to your router.

I found something interesting. JuiceSSH works with a Pi Zero without the W.
The W version always grabs 192.168.0.105 and doesn't work. An older Pi Zero and Raspberry Pi 2 B+ always grabs 192.168.0.102 and works. For the test I use a USB powered hub with a wi-fi dongle and mini keyboard dongle plugged in. I use an HDMI monitor to see the boot. I use the same SD card with Jessie Lite to test. I first try the W version. No connect. I move everything to the non W version. I connect quickly. Maybe if I disable the wi-fi on the W version, it would work too? Don't know how to do that. The W version will still SSH with JuiceSSH not involved.

Some routers have a "Feature" called Client Isolation that is meant basically to protect users from themselves. It keeps clients from being able to contact each other if they are both WiFi and in some cases separates WiFi client from Ethernet connected clients. So check your router for any kind of configuration that mentions Isolation.

The router will be leaving that IP for that device, probably based on max address. It will be reserved for some specific time.

Turn off, leave turn on the router may free up the IP table and give it a new one.
Unless you have specifically set the router to reserve the IP (which I do as it makes it easier to find).

If you fing, scan and connect from the scan via SSH (launching juice from that) does it work?
For some of my connections ,that seems to work when doing it in juice manually doesn't..
