Car Media Player

Sun Apr 23, 2017 8:22 pm

Want to add an RPI 3 in my wife's SUV, attached to composite video ports on the flip down monitor.
Read that I may need a UPS HAT, (which from what I've read aren't made for car batteries due to drain and dirty power from a cars 12v).
I was wondering if there was a solution like PiCore, where the Kodi Media Player runs in memeory and everything else is read-only, so as to not corrupt the SD card when unexpectedly powering off. Is there a good solution for either Read-Only media players or a UPS HAT that is made for car batteries?

If you use Raspbian then you install Kodi on top of that. Then search around here for instructions on creating an overlayfs. I can't find the exact link right now. That should do it. I used a pretty beefy cigarette port to US port that gives pretty clean power. Don't skimp on the power supply.

Hi Olsenblane,

Another solution is to power the system through the OBD port in the car. This also gives you the possibility to spice up your car computer with vehicle telematics.

Good luck with your project :)
