Can you play 3D 1080p video off a Raspberry Pi?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I was looking to use the Raspberry Pi as a HTPC and play downloaded video off a external USB hard drive. I was wondering if this is a possibility, or if I should look for other products.

omxplayer and xbmc can handle SBS 3D videos, and can signal 3D mode over hdmi so the TV switches.
