How to stop N cores of the cpu [solved]

Hello guys,I want to utilise only 2-3 cores of my rpi 3 because i don't need much power.How can i stop some cores of the pi 3?THanks

EDIT:I found a solution:add maxcpus=N in the cmdline.txt where N is the number of cores from 1 to 4

does it now also use a lot less energy (the only practical benefit I see), or are the unused cores just idling, but still using the same amount of power?

Could also be a heat issue.
