GPIO controller

Thu Apr 06, 2017 12:49 am

Hello all.

I am familiar with the raspberry pi as far as installing different OS versions such as kodi, recalbox and raspbian. I have recently decided to start the journey of creating a portable pi. I had a case 3d printed and everything and am using a 5 inch screen. My question is, can I hook any controller directly to the GPIO. The one I have has little soldering points labeled with each action on the circuit board so I am assuming I could but have no expertise in this area.

I'm so sorry, I thought long and hard about what to write and left out some important details.
I have an iPega controller that I have taken apart and found that it looks to have soldering points for each button on the circuit board. I was wondering if it is possible to solder those direct to the gpio on the pi3.

Hi,
I had to google what an ipega was. Seems there's a few different models. For any controller to be hard wired to the GPIO port it'll need to have 3.3volt signal levels. Anything higher and the pi could be damaged. You will need to use a meter to measure the voltages when any switch or d-pad is enabled and disabled, ie on or off.
