apt-get update giving errors

Tue Sep 18, 2012 11:55 pm

...mostly appears to be related to failing to resolve archive.raspberrypi.org. Is that still valid? Is it having issues unrelated to the Pi I'm trying to update? Does it need to be changed on my end, and--if so--how?

On an semi-related issue... I've seen a fair amount of comment about using "DOSBox". Apt-get install doesn't find anything for that (I've tried all lower case as well as some mixed case name variants). Where/how do I get it?

(Goal is to try running Wizardy 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant. Since it was released in 1992 and ran really well on a 120MHz 32MB 486, I figure the Pi should handle it just fine.)

The plot thickens... I rebuilt the SD card. The Pi I was using to work with still wouldn't do updates. So for a test, I swapped in another Pi...and it worked with no problems with everything (power, all cables, SD card, keyboard/mouse...the works...only the Pi is different).

I haven't seen anything about bad Ethernet chips or connectors...has anyone seen those as problematic? Haven't tested the board voltage yet...that will be next.

Looks like I may be doing another RMA... (I had a bad Pi in a previous order).

Well, the mac address would be different, Dont know if that would cause any issues in Rasparian or not.

Have you troubleshooted the network at all ?

does ifconfig say "RUNNING"? Do you have an ip address ? is the the same as the working pi ?

can you ping localhost, dhcp server, dns server?

I rebuilt the card and updated it using another Pi, then took another card with a clean build and updating ran fine. Beats me what went wrong, but it's working now.
