can both HDMI and DPI be used?

Mon Mar 13, 2017 10:11 pm

I have a project where I need to drive up to 6 small displays with video data. There are other aspects of the project and at least one board will need to have some significant compute power but the others can be just enough to drive a display. I have some significant space constraints and it would be a lot better if I could use three boards to drive 6 displays instead of 6 boards.

There are a couple of Raspberry Pi boards that have both a HDMI and digital display interface. Can these be used simultaneously, driving different video streams?

Thanks

Certain software, omxplayer for example, can be made to work with either DPI or HDIM/Composite/DSI interface and can have two copies running on different interfaces at the same time. There are a couple of other programs that support that too, but most won't work that way (until the experimental video driver reaches a stage where it allows the desktop to do that).
