Purchasing SD Card

Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:35 pm

Is there a benefit to purchasing a larger SD card? Is it ok to use a 16gb card if all I'll be doing is using KODI? Or is it better to go with a 32 or 64 gb card?

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks,

To some extent it depends upon what you are (plan to) doing (do) with your Kodi setup. Personally, as a mainly "basic" Raspbian user (not streaming videos etc.) it's more cost effective (for me) to stick with 8 - 16Gb uSDHC cards (+ a couple of 32Gb ones for "test purposes") and use a separate, possibly larger, USB flash drive for "data storage" (easier to back up independently).
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

I got my new Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB card few days ago, very fast vs my old NOOBS preinstalled card.

Its perfectly OK.
I use 16 or 32 gig cards, as they seem to give the best price/GB. Samsung usually. I don't need any more space as, like others, I use an extern USB SSD for the large media store.

I started out with a 16GB, but as I had a 64GB at home, I put that in & loaded my (18GB of) music onto it so I am ready to rock as soon as I plug in. :)
