Blu-ray's?

Mon Mar 06, 2017 2:47 am

I have a collection of DVD's and Blu-Ray's. I currently have a Pi 2b running Kodi- I'm curious about the best way to use my collection- I have a USB DVD/Blu-Ray drive that can be powered by a wall wart. I could also rip and playback the files in Kodi. I'd rather not have to buy another NAS. Can the Pi play in Kodi from an external drive? What's the best way to play these shows?

Thanks!

You cannot play recent commercial Blu-Rays on Linux without makemkv , a program only
available for x86 machines (Intel/AMD). Reason for this is that while a dozen Blu-Ray keys
have been leaked , AACS actually allows revocation so makemkv is secrect code to not get more keys
banned. That and the additional layer of complexity that is BD+ copy protection.

You best bet is to rip everything beforehand (with makemkv , for example).

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

I know there are a lot of variables here, but how do blurray rips compare with DVD rips in terms of disk space use? Trying to figure out how big of a NAS I'll need.
