Project help!

Sat Mar 04, 2017 10:52 pm

Hey everyone,

I am new to using Raspberry Pi's and they are absolutely amazing pieces of technology. I started on a project where I would like to use a Raspberry Pi3 w/ a 5mp Camera in order to capture an image, OCR the image and then export data from my receipts.

A few things I need some assistance with:
What could I use to adjust and focus the camera lens? The image is pretty blurry when I take a picture even when the height is adjusted.

What program to OCR and extract the data from my receipts? Currently, I am looking at using Tesseract and would like to expand my knowledge of potential programs.

Any type of assistance is greatly appreciated! I look forward to reading your inputs!

It's been a while since I've done this, but it is possible to change the focus. The original cameras were set to be in focus from around 1m -> infinity, if you wanted something closer then you need to manually adjust the focus. The newer cameras might be slightly different.

I've used a small screwdriver or scalpel in the past to rotate the lens and change the focus. The first time you do this might require a bit of extra force as there's a small blob of glue you need to break after than the lens should rotate fairly freely.
