How to restore the menu bar in Pixel?

Thu Mar 02, 2017 9:00 pm

My RPi 2B is running Jessie with Pixel from an image installed in November 2016. While trying different Panel Appearance settings, I managed to end up with a desktop missing the top menu bar. Is there any way to easily restore it? I have an identical Jessie version on a B+, so is it possible simply to copy the relevant file(s) from the B+ to the 2B, or do I have to re-install the latest image?

My preferred desktop configuration on the RPi 2B has been restored with the following steps:

I copied the file "panel" from ~/.config/lxpanel/LXDE-pi/panels on the B+ to the home directory on the 2B. There were two files in that directory on the 2B: "panel" and "Left," which I assumed was the result of the earlier changes I'd made to the panel appearance settings. I deleted the "Left" file and then moved the "panel" file from the home directory to ~/.config/lxpanel/LXDE-pi/panels on the 2B and rebooted.

This used to happen on the SliTaz distro - delete the .config/lxpanel/*/panels file, log out & then back in, & it used to restore it.
