best RPI model for retropie

im considering the option of buying a raspberry pi to use with retropie so i can emulate 8bit and 16 bit games consoles but with so many models including the pie zero im wondering which model is best for my needs

edit i dont plan to emulate above the 16 bit generation im only looking to emulate 8 bit and 16 bit cartridge based consoles

you would want a version with wifi (so you can add roms easyer) the main question is what sort of gamepad's and how many will you be using, PIHut do nice snes usb gamepads.

i currently have 2 retropie setups i have one A+, and i have retropie on my pi3b pitop laptop and it runs great

Just get a Pi3B, means all the interfaces work well and no problems with frame skips/audio stuttering.

Although I use a Pi2 in my Picade which also does the job.
