Controller and menus

Mon Feb 20, 2017 10:33 pm

Edited:
Hi all, I haven’t really been getting much help on this so I thought I’d rewrite my question and break it down a little.
I’m totally new to the raspberrypi thing and I’m learning. I set up a couple for retro gaming. One for me and one for my grandson, both pi3b.

I set up a keyboard and a real basic hard wired NES controller, toggle on the left. select, start, B, and A buttons. When I go to the retropie menu and select say configuration editor for example a real basic menu pops up with a column of numbered selections, see picture below, and then at the bottom two choices “OK” and “Cancel”. The keypad arrow pad on the left will move the selection up and down but then none of the buttons will let me select anything.

1) Is the keyboard required to use these setup menus? I really don’t want to haul out a keyboard every time I want to use these menus.
2) Is there any way to lock these menus out? Some sort of script I could add that would be a firewall?

Other than that the controller is set up correctly and works with the games great.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what settings you're asking me for. I would post an image but I can't figure out how to attach one on this site.

Hopefully this works. This is a screen shot from a video but it represents the type of menu I'm talking about.
