G'day, I have a question regarding the output of the gertbot motor controllers, there are 4 outputs @ 2.5 amp, I understand this rating can be canged by resoldering the board (i want to avoid this if possible) is there an amplifier circuit that I can use to boost the pwm signal? I want to use the bot to power my garden Railway, unfortunately it requires up to 10 amp.
Ideally I could connect the gertbot output to a seperately powered amplifier/booster so it can handle up to 10 amp is this possible, or am I better off resoldering the bot?

It is difficult to say without knowing what you want to use as power amplifier.
I would think it is possible although unconventional.
Beware that you loose all control over the short-circuit behavior as there is no feedback
about any problems at the output of your power amplifier and the Gertbot.
It definitely would not cause any damage to the Gertbot, although I wonder
if your power amplifier is happy with a 8V** Peak-Peak input signal.
But as I said I have no idea what your are using.
(Just as a last thought: I DO hope it is not an Audio amplifier because you can really forget that!)
**8V is the minimum operating voltage of the Gertbot.

I was already somewhat confused about your request as I never had heard of
amplifiers for motor power circuits. I thought you had something exotic laying around.
In that case as I said: I don't there there exists something like an amplifier for a motor driver.
But this is big forum so it may well be that somebody contradicts me.
I would also think that anything you buy will be more complicated to get connected and working
then soldering some wires on a Gertbot.

I was under the impression that I need to remove some of the resistors and resolder them on the bot to change the output current to 2x5 watt?

This is speculation, and I'm not an expert, but might it be possible to use a DCC booster to do this?
Google shows a number of DIY designs though I guess you'd need one that can accept an sufficiently high input voltage and that will function without a full AC input signal.

This was the sort of thng I had in mind, but I am not sure how a dcc booster works, or weather it is a reapeater not a real booster....
