Best Home Media share service (dlna vs smb vs etc)

Fri Feb 03, 2017 2:18 pm

It has been some time since I really played in linux and media systems.
In our home, we have 1 rpi (v3) running ~10TB of external drives (powered USB of course).

My first approach was to setup a DLNA server as it was the service I was use to my TVs accessing and SMB to permit dumping data to the drives (shares).

Of all the devices in our home (3 smart TVs, android box, cells, etc), it appears most no longer support DLNA, but can see the SMB shares.

With this in mind, is there a better service or setup out there for data sharing with media devices?
Current smb server is Samba, which works not too bad, but appears to have some issues when jumping around small media files (music and pictures).

I am running wired network where ever possible (cell phones and tablets are wireless of course).
