Can a Ras Pi 3 connect to TVs RCA input?

Tue Jan 31, 2017 6:27 am

Can a Raspberry Pi 3 latest version connect to an older t.v.'s r.c.a. inputs? The red,white and yellow. I have cables that go from the 3.5mm head phone jack to a r.c.a. composites. But the t.v. screen is black. None one of the cables i bought seem to work. Even thou the one i bought claimed to work with the raspberry 2.

Yes it is possible. You need a correctly wired cable.

It could be that the Pi is locked to HDMI output, you may need to set it to composite output.

If you have the correct TRRS4 Cable then you may need to edit config.txt as the composite display defaults to NTSC (American) output.

Code: Select all

sdtv_mode=2
0 is NTSC, 1 is Japanese NTSC, 2 is PAL, 3 is Brazilian PAL

Give a link to the cable you bought.
The most commonly available cable is a 'camcorder' (Sony, Panasonic, Samsung etc) cable which has red and yellow swapped.
Red of the cable goes to Yellow on the TV
Yellow of cable to Red on TV
White to White
It won't hurt to try any combination.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.
