Possible to use Yamaha THR10 as USB soundcard?

Sun Jan 22, 2017 5:02 am

Hello, I'm messing around with my RPi 2 running the latest Raspbian Pixel desktop and the official RPi touchscreen... the analog audio is noisy, as you know. So I thought, could my Yamaha THR10 be made to work as the USB sound card?

NOTE: I understand THR10 is not widely used with linux at all, so working with RPi might be futile... so I don't want to waste anyone's time, currently this is just a curiosity. But if you have any resources that might make this possible, your help would be appreciated.

If you're not familiar with it, the THR10 is a guitar amp modeler that also features a usb connection for use as a recording interface and/or usb sound card. (Linux not officially supported)
I just took a shot and connected it to the RPi and as far as I can tell, it is detected as a usb sound card. lsusb and aplay both identify it by name and show it as a USB Audio device.
I opened Kodi and went to the audio settings and it showed up with 2 options (Analog and SPDIF) so I selected the Analog option and got sound?... in the form or awful static/screeching/popping/hissing/etc. Same thing for SPDIF, surprise surprise.

I looked up some tutorials for using USB sound cards with RPi and didn't find anything too helpful, but I'm pretty much a linux noob so I could easily have missed something. Honestly though, I'm thinking it may be that the THR10 doesn't work with more generic drivers and might require a custom driver to get it to work.

So here I am... I won't be hurt if nobody replies, but I thought I'd give it a shot. If it's not going to happen, feel free to just tell me that too :) Thanks!
