Bluetooth adapter NOT found Raspberry Pi 3

Wed Jan 18, 2017 9:04 pm

Hello,

I have been having some issue with the built-in Bluetooth adapter recently.
I have 5 raspberry pi 3s, 4 of them have had this issue.
I managed to fix 2 by following the instructions in this post http://forum.modmypi.com/technical-supp ... -t612.html
However, this did not exactly work on the last 4. I was wondering if there is anyone experiencing the following issues...
After booting the Bluetooth icon remains grey.
When running;

Code: Select all

sudo bluetoothctl
No adapter information comes up
When running;

Code: Select all

sudo hciconfig
The adapter information come sup but the status is "DOWN"
When trying to "reset" the adapter, I get a timeout error!!

Has anyone experienced this?

I was getting that the device was "POWERING UP" but then nothing would happen on the screen.
I decided to revert Raspbian to the 2016-09 image and everything seems to be working fine.
I was hoping someone would point to a bug on the recent updates.

I just had this problem and this is what fixed it for me....
My pi said, "No Bluetooth Adapter Found"

You DO NOT have to re-image your SD card, but you should start clean and remove any fragments of the existing bluetooth program as it may be corrupted in some way if you were messing around with sudo nano inside the bluez service.

It is assumed that you press ENTER after each line...

sudo apt-get remove bluetooth bluez blueman

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade -y

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo reboot

sudo apt-get install Bluetooth bluez blueman

sudo apt-get install bluez bluez-firmware

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

sudo usermod -G bluetooth -a pi

sudo cat /etc/group | grep bluetooth

sudo reboot

sudo systemctl status bluetooth

...After doing all this, your bluetooth adapter should be fixed. Granted some of the steps above may not have been necessary, but I did them anyway just to make sure I took all the necessary steps.

I hope this helps.

I just tried this process and now the problem is worse. It's showing no bluetooth adapter found. Prior to this the adapter was at least being found.

There's a typo in Nerdlinger's instructions. The 7th command should contain bluetooth with a lower-case 'b'.

In any case, this didn't help me either. When I do

Code: Select all

sudo hciconfig hci0 up
as suggested by Douglas6, the response is "Can't get device info: No such device".

That response indicates that no HCI (Bluetooth) device can be found by the operating system. Could be a hardware error, and the Bluetooth chip is toast. Not likely, especially if WiFi is working. More likely is that the hciuart.service didn't run. Either it's missing, or encountered errors. First thing to do is check the results of

Code: Select all

systemctl status hciuart
Post those here.

● hciuart.service
Loaded: masked (/dev/null)
Active: inactive (dead)

Ok, no idea why that service would be masked. You could try unmasking it

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl unmask hciuart
and then rebooting.
