Accessing website hosted on raspberry pi via public ip

Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:04 pm

I'm on my pc and I can access the website that is hosted on the raspberry pi via the public ip address. Is this normal? Is there a way I can fix this?

- More details.. is RasPi and the PC on the same LAN ?
- Use http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ to check if port 80 is available from outside.
- Check you port-forwarding/DMZ settings in your router.

It might be normal for the shared network that your RPi and PC use.

Is it a 'home' broadband internet connection provided by an ISP, or something else?

What is the problem you want fix? (It is more common for users to ask why they cannot access their RPi from the global internet!)

You could try connecting to it using a smart phone not connected to your wifi. I suspect that will fail to connect.
But if it does, you have port forwarding enabled on the router. If it's not what you want, disable it because you shouldn't expose your home network to the internet without good reason.
