Header crimp connectors?

Sun Jan 15, 2017 10:14 pm

I've found that a lot of I2C & SPI devices plug in with varios crimp based connectors such as molex and JST, however I haven't found anywhere that I cna buy either the plugs pre-assembled with header pins, or the pieces to do it myself. I tried pulling some pins from extra long headers, but they don't stay put very well once crimped unless solders, but then if that isn't perfect it won't slide into the connector correctly. I also find that since it's solid metal they don't stay centered and then they don't quite match the 2.54mm spacing of a board.

Is there a place that sells either the connectors that have leads good for soldering, or just the inserts for the plugs?

I did manage to get one built using diode leads which were flexible enough for me to get into the 2.54mm spacing even with them being off center crimps, but they aren't quite strong enough to do a good job holding the connector steady when used. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

That is what I have, but those do not have the leads to connect to a board.

I'm not looking for jumpers, I'm looking to have plugs that can be soldered to a board.

You're not describing what you want in the right way. So I'm out of here.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what is unclear about wanting to be able to place a JST or molex connector directly on my board and have it soldered on.

I am also confused :)
Do you mean a header like this (this is 'male', ie a plug) :

Or a female, ie socket :

The first one is exactly what I'm trying to find for one need, and I've also been looking for a female 4-pin JST-SM (light strand plug) that is basically the same style. Though I notice everyone keeps linking UK links, I'm wondering if I'm just on the wrong side of the pond (pretty sure I am).

The second link and the male counterpart are the easy to find ones.

With those links I now know what I need to search for so I think I'll find it now.  Search works better when you have the right terms.

Well the Pi is a UK product and this is a UK forum and I bet that a very high proportion of the forum users are from the UK as well.
Not only that, if you don't fill in your user profile for Location, we don't know where in the world you are ;) .

Having said that, the link I posted were from eBay - I am sure that would be able to ship to the US, or can be found on eBay.com.
