Installing Kali on Preloaded SD

Fri Jan 06, 2017 4:45 pm

So, maybe this is a really basic question, but I'm trying to install Kali on the same SD card that came preloaded with NOOBS and Raspbian. I've downloaded and extracted the img and tried to put it directly onto the card, but it seems I can't because of the partitions NOOBS has set up. I'd rather not use a different SD.

I saw mentioned somewhere that I could install it by putting it on a flashdrive. Any tips?

You can't add images to an existing NOOBs install without wiping the card and starting over.
Read the Kali web site/forums to find out how to install the image.
Likely the Kali image needs to be written with a copy utility such as Win32diskimager or similar bit copy software. The contents of the card will be lost.
I would suggest to get another SD card(s) to install another OS.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Not possible an .IMG file replaces whatever is on the SD Card.

Though NoobS does have a means of installing additional Operating Systems, though you will need to start over with a fresh install of Noobs as per read me:

Thanks everyone! I guess I will try starting over with noobs and see what happens (that's what these are for, right?).

You can try Berryboot http://www.howtogeek.com/141325/how-to- ... berryboot/, but you will have to wipe the SD Card, and download the img files via berryboot on pi, pre downloaded img files can't be used. (I guess, maybe this can be wrong, if you find a way to use pre downloaded img files tell me also :P )
