Is it possible to use 9-bit serial communication?

Is it possible to use 9-bit serial communication in Raspberry Pi? I need to use the UART with 9-bit (to recognize the command or data) ...

Not that I'm aware of. Do you have a device at the other end which understands 9 bit data? Why not change the interface to use 8 bit.
