Connect to Raspberry Pi 3 model B through wifi

Id like to connect to my new raspberry pi through wifi either ssh or vnc without having to use an ethernet cable. Is thi possible? Id like to be able to wirelessly update the smart mirror i made for my brother but i cant seem to find any documentation on how to achieve this. Can some one point me in the right direction if its possible. Thanks

1. Get the RPi connected by Wi-Fi to your router.

2. Get ssh and/or VNC working between your computer and RPi via the router.

If you haven't found lots of info about doing both of those your searching is less than half-hearted.

I have connected through ethernet but dont know why i thought it would have the same ip address as that way, have now found the correct ip
