LibreELEC V7.90.009 & Web browser

Tue Dec 20, 2016 10:48 pm

rpi 3 Model B
I'm working on two different builds to try and get the best fit for me.
I like Ubuntu Mate for the desktop feel and I trying for the media options.
Problem I'm running into are as follows.
I like both of these systems But with Ubuntu I cant get Video to play with VLC and am unsure what else to use .
With LibreELEC I get very nice video but cant find anything for a web browser.
I think between the two I would like to stick with Ubuntu because I want a computer replacement along with playing music and video.
Anybody have any ideas on what i could use as an alternative to VLC. I have ran all system updates.
Thanks for any ideas to help a newbie.

What is wrong with Raspbian Jessie with the Pixel desktop, you can install kweb and use omxplayerGUI:

VLC by default is not hardware accelerated, hence poor playback !!

OpenElec is a Media specific Operating System, hence no web browser !!

Could someone give me some info on which image would be a good for a desktop like Mate but will still play video & Music. I have tried for days to get something without having to ask and show my newbeness. So is there such a image or do i just have to download every app I can find. That's what I've been doing and no luck Audio freezes and I cant even get Video to work at all.
I have even tried every android image I could find but their to unfinished to use at this point.
Thanks

Thank you I do use the Browser in ELEC but NO music or Video players. Im sure their is something that will work for playing them but because of the different naming of the apps I dont know what to look for . I have tried two different programs one for video and one for music but neither would work.
