I'm thinking of trying to develop a project. Here goes... I have a boat. It lives at a old and rustic (i.e.... no wifi) marina. I would like to gather data (temperature, battery state, bilge pump log, alarm state...) and email a small report daily. Most of this I can figure out without much problem. The one thing I would like to know is if anyone has any experience with (or any ideas about) the wifi portion. I have a device... its a netgear hot spot offered up by a ISP that offers a FREE subscription for the first .5GB per month! (and then a reasonable charge for data used beyond that.) What I would like to do is come up with a scheme to send the "data report" in the most efficient way possible... like: connect-send-disconnect... with the least amount of overhead!!! So... does anyone out there have an experience with turning on and off the wifi and limiting throughput?
Thanks for any information!
