Would it be possible to use the smartq v5's screen?

Thu Sep 06, 2012 3:23 pm

I am looking for a small screen and thinking in getting one of ebay's Rear View Monitors, something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-3-TFT-LCD-Car ... 287wt_1186.
This morning, a friend of mine offered me this SmartQ V5:

to try to use its screen.

I am able to develop reasonably well in python and some other languages and have been learning the arduino side of things for the past few months.

Could someone tell me if i'll need to write some drivers or it is only a matter of soldering wires and use it through one of the hdmi or vga ports?

P.s: I haven't opened it yet. I found the inside picture from here: http://lib.paguro.ru/upload_smarq/inside%20V5/

Nearly impossible. You should wait for the official screen or you could try the one from ChalkElec -
if you need touch. Else get a "proper" HDMI or DVI-D screen module.
If you are really adventurous , you could search for driver boards on eBay .

Thanks for your reply ghans! I'll let it be then.
Anyway, i've learnt this weekend to use the raspi via ssh from ubuntu and must say that it is soo usable. It is now sitting (hiding) near my router and can access it even from work.
I think i wasted those bucks on that 4.3`` screen.

Saludos!!

Well , doesn't the SmartQ run Android ? You could use VNC.
And the other small screen you already bought should work fine from the
composite output of the Pi.

I'll try to explain myself a bit better.

The original intention was to get a screen from any cheap second hand gadget available (nintendo ds, smartq, ...anything) wich offered better resolution then a lcd display and could be connected directly to the raspberry without any other operating system or network issues involved.

I'm building an arduino robot, and the raspi shoud be the brains of the thing. The screen is to easily give me visual information (print) of what is happening when the raspy is on its own, so i can make 'live' adjustments (i already have a basic bluetooth android remote which can do those things)

To program the raspi, i beleive the best way is to ssh into it from my ubuntu box where i have all the tools i need, and a big screen to work confortably.
That's why i say i've wasted the bucks. the robot should't spend too much current, so the screen i've just buyed would drain the battery. And since ssh/sftp is so easy to use, i won't be needing the screen to program and configure it.

In the end, i still don't know which is my best option: low consumption, low price, no network needed....
