How to revert to previous firmware

Sun Nov 13, 2016 8:40 pm

After updating to the latest firmware of a Raspberry PI 2 B with

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update
I am getting some flickering on screen, icons on the desktop moving around, and an intermittent yellow bolt in the top right corner.

I understand I can revert to some previous firmware with

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update <hash>
but which value should I use for <hash>? Where can I check the latest stable firmware release to be used?

The Raspberry is connected to a BrickPi. I had previously updated the software with

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude full-upgrade
Thanks!

https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commits/master

Or better
sudo apt-get install --reinstall raspberrypi-kernel

Stop running rpi-update, stick with the stable kernel.

When I try with apt-get, I get:

Code: Select all

E: Unable to locate package raspiberrypi-kernel
I assumed a typo in the package name and also tried raspberrypi-kernel, with the same result.

Thanks.

I have re-imaged the micro SD with the latest Raspbian and now the problem is resolved. Previously I had a very old image on the micro SD, hence the unexpected output of dpkg -l | grep raspberry.*kernel.

Thank you for your help!
