How to add taskbar menu items?

If I have a program that is not listed in the menu taskbar, eg the newly added SmartSim program, how can I make menu entries myself? Or edit the existing ones for that matter.
I know there is an edit function by right-clicking on the taskbar, but I havent figured a way to edit the programs on the menu from there.

While I'm on the topic on adding shortcuts, I know that you can add programs to the desktop by right-clicking entires on the taskbar menu. But how do you add shortcuts to the desktop for programs that are not in the taskbar menu?
