Raspberry wont fully boot: Failed to start logging services

Tue Oct 18, 2016 3:26 pm

Hi I'm working on a 3D Printer which is controlled by a Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry isnt hooked up to the Internet so i was really stuggling to find the right packages and copy them from my computer. When i tried to set up a touch Display (using this guide: http://engineering-diy.blogspot.de/2013 ... creen.html) I hit a Point where it became to annoying and nothing seemed to work so i wanted to connect a UMTS stick to the pi.
I followed this guide:
[/https://raspberry.tips/raspberrypi-tu ... sie/wvdial
Of course it didnt work as planned and when i tried to restart the pi i got the following error Messages:

Failed to start System logging Services
Failed to start light Display Manager
Failed to start OpenBSD Secure Shell Server

Those three error Messages pop up a few times while trying to boot until the pi gives up. I can still typ in commands but the GUI wont start. Any tips on how to fix this or should i just reinstall the whole System?

Also: Is it really that hard to work with a Raspberry without Internet Connection or am I just dumb? Im really curious if ist only me who stuggles.

Welcome to the forums, which are run by volunteers in their spare time. Their sense of urgency and priorities may be different to yours.

To work with: No.

To maintain and upgrade: Yes.

Not impossible, but needing some effort and understanding. Two related problems:

1. Without using the package manager for the installed OS it is very easy to attempt to download and install incompatible and potentially disruptive updates in error.

2. Many packages have prerequisites that also have to be installed. This is taken care of by the package manager, but can be frustrating to replicate manually.

If you can't network the RPi where it is currently installed can you temporarily relocate the RPi, or alternatively take the SD card to a networked RPi to get it configured and then take it back to the 3d printer.
