Raspberry Pi 7" Touch Screen

I hooked up my Raspberry Pi 7" Touch Screen and it will not show an image. Power has been hooked up correctly and the cables are good to go. Did I just get a bad display?

Is the ribbon cable in the right way round? Blue side to the outside of the RPi board.

What PSU are you using? I found I needed a beefier two-output supply with separate USB cables to the Pi and the display.

I'm using the bog standard RPi 2.4A supply the microUSB power is connected to the RPi not to the display board. I don't run that RPi3 very hard I've seen the tiny rainbow square on odd times (still haven't seen the new icon for underpowered).

Dougie, I know you can make your system work. My question was to the OP.
I also know that a 2.4A PSU or the "official" 2.5A PSU may be enough -- but it wasn't for me.

In most cases, 2A will be plenty enough current. For example, I can run a Pi2 with the 7" display powered from my laptop's USB port. Yes the display does show the rainbow square top right, but it is working fins apart from that. I am powering the display from the pi via the supplied DuPont cables to the GPIO port's +5/GND lines, with laptop USB cable going direct to the pi.
I suspect you either have a genuine fault, or the cables are not making good contact. Also beware that the '5v 2000mA PSU' may not be accurate.
If you have a voltmeter you may be able to measure the voltage on the pi - if it is considerably lower than 5v it may be a sign that the total current used is more than the PSU can supply.....

As I wrote above, it may not be, especially with a Pi3B. Even Texy admits that a Pi2B plus TFT gives a low voltage warning (not a good sign, even if things still work ). It's worth trying a better (or dual) supply before considering that the display is bad.
