Wifi Problems

Wed Aug 29, 2012 5:36 pm

I've bought the Edinax EW-7811Un nano dongle. The eLinux wiki states it will work with the pi. I've booted the pi up with the dongle in and I can't get it to work. I've tried the instructions here but i cannot write to the interfaces file, so this didn't work.

Yes I have, I can't seem to get it to work. When it shows a list of wifi networks it says 'Does not support scanning' or something along those lines

Firstly make sure your powersupply is 1a or higher.
I had trouble getting mine (same adapter) to work until I switched to a 1a iPhone charger (from a 750ma blackberry charger).
Which distribution are you using?

I'm using Debian Squeeze and the adaptor I bought from RS Electronics (1.2 A). I've tried the directions over at the eLinux wiki ( http://elinux.org/index.php?title=RPi_e ... ntable=yes) but it's still not working. When it boots up it hangs around at 'Starting Internet superserver:xinetd'. After that it shows 'startpar: service(s) returned failure: hal ... failed!

Are you using the WiFi device in a powered hub or is it connected directly to the RPi?

It's connected directly to the pi.
