Ordered 6/20 - still nothing

Wed Aug 29, 2012 11:09 am

I ordered on 6/20/12 and paid using paypal from RS components. I got the confirmation email with my reference number and everything. It's now going on September and I haven't gotten anything yet. I have been all over trying to find some way to check on the details and got no answers. I already eamiled aspberryPi@rswww.com but got no response.

Whats the deal.....?

Where in the world are you it may have an effect.

Keep trying RS. ;)

Repeat e-mails and the phone if you can.

Note the Foundation (here) is not RS. Or Farnell for that matter.

I am in the US. My reference number was 84XXX and I don't see that on the list of updated ship dates. As far as I can tell my order *should* have been shipped already.

I know this isn't an RS forum, I was just wondering if there are others in the same boat. Just seems kind of shady. I'm sick of waiting, if they don't get back to me by tomorrow i'll just cancel the order. The problem is Paypal has a 45 day limit on disputing transactions, so if they don't give me a refund then I'm out $60.

BTW, Is there a US or 800 number to call? I can't call international and they don't have any other number listed on their website.

My experience with RS has shown that they send out e-mails for two reasons (beyond the initial, order confirmation/you're card has been charged) the first is when the delivery date get's push back beyond the initial wait time they provided. The second is when they ship the product out.

It can be very annoying to not hear anything from them, but I can only speculate that in their minds they told you it would take X number of weeks it's still <X number of weeks ergo no communication is required.

That's not to say don't try and get a hold of them if you desire to do so, just my humble guess as to why they haven't communicated anything.

I understand your point. However, they promised 9 weeks from June 20, and it is now 2 weeks beyond that with no communication. I tried to get ahold of them last week, got no response. Tried again yesterday, no response. That is not how you keep customers. This will probably be my first and last order from RS components. My friend ordered from Allied on July 2, with the same 9 week lead time, and he got his Friday.

ISO Date Format 2012-6-20.
Ordered 6 of 20 pis?
I guess we adults can figure out various date formats, and know that no month twenty exists, but in keeping with the international flavour, and easy software translation to other languages, maybe full dates help. 20th June 2012.

Really glad I found this forum, I thought it was just me.

Ordered 20 June, order ref 82xxx. Now 10 weeks later - No shipment, no emails. Contacted RS just got back the standard delay email.
I see many mentioning the case, is this a factor. I ordered the clear case too and loads of items for my Raspberry Pi, order was over £60 - and that's just one Ras + accessories.

I was really looking forward to getting my hands on the Raspberry Pi - but it's when it goes like this I wish I had never heard of it. All you can look forward to is delays, no response to emails, delays again and just hope if it does turn up the orders complete and nothing is broken.

This was ordered as a birthday gift, birthday gone now - looks like it maybe more like a Christmas one the way they are going.

What's with you RS!!!!

The problem is order overload nobody ever expected the demand unoffical rough figures approching the 1/2 mill sometime next month.

They are making them as fast as they can with only two suppliers world wide thats a lot of stuff so expect some issues with delivery and the odd rogue board.

remember in March there was a container on the high seas with the first 10k RPi's that they tought would last a couple of months

There's an email kicking around the Foundation from the end of last year where one of us says something along the lines of: "This is great! If we play our cards right, we could sell twenty thousand of the things!"

We, Farnell and RS have been running to catch up ever since.

I really do appreciate the work everyone involved has done, and I understand that demand far exceeded expectations. What I don't understand is how other suppliers have been able to receive shipments, take orders, and send out pieces of Pi, while RS seems to be high-centered. I was under the impression that my invitation to pre-order (and pay) would get me a spot in line that had some sort of priority. My friend's order through Allied didn't get charged until they shipped, AND they were able to fill the order in the time the originally quoted. It just seems that something is amiss at RS and no one seems to have any answers as to what exactly is going on.

RS Components is part of the Electrocomponents group, which trades as RS across the world except in North America where it trades as Allied Electronics.

They are one and the same.

There are only two suppliers Farnell and RS Components

I understand, however they function as two separate entities. Allied presumably imports their products and warehouses them in the states, where RS Components would be shipping from outside the US (necessitating the use of a courier to which I would likely have to pay import duties and other fees).

Tried that already, they don't have access to RS orders and can't help. They tried to give me the phone number, but it is the same one I already had and can't call. I wish they had a toll free number we could call from the states.

I just ordered from another source that says they are "In Stock" and ready to ship. I also put in a request to cancel my order with RS.

Sounds like your best bet. Obviously Allied don't expect you to purcase stuff from RS Branches outside the US and RS proably don't want to antagonise their US management by making it easy to buy from say for example the UK. ;)

Yeah, I placed the order with RS not knowing that Allied was available in the US. Had I known that only a day or two later I would have waited. I was just too giddy to get my Pi. Ship date is tomorrow. HORAY!

I also ordered on June 20, #81xxx 9-week estimate.

I ordered extra stuff from RS with the RasPi >> ONLY << for them to have a chance to make a little profit after giving us the privilege of obtaining a RasPi. I ordered one 2 weeks later from another source and received it in a week. Strange.

I will wait until next week ( 11 weeks ), then I will cancel . . . disappointing, but business is business.

Canceled my order Wed 2012/29/06 (formatted well enough for everyone?) and got my refund today. Now I can use that $55 on peripherals for my Pi :)

Or parts for a QuadCopter.... :)
