From analog to DLNA

Fri Aug 19, 2016 4:12 pm

I have a number of DLNA/UPnP audio speakers, and I can stream audio from them to my iPhone etc.
However I'd quite like to be able to stream audio from an analog audio source to them, possibly using R-PI.

So my question is in two parts...
1. What are my options for getting Analog stereo audio into R-PI
2. What software would I need to stream that audio to a DLNA/UPnP speaker.

The DLNA/UPnP speaker and my R-PI would be on the same network.

1. The most common way to get live audio into a RPi is a USB soundcard.

2. It is 7 years since I participated in DLNA sessions but at that time it was only intended for file playback, not live sources. Maybe it has been enhanced since then or there is some workaround to make streaming sources look like files.

Thanks Dr Geoff

I've got a couple of cheap USB sound cards and can successfully record and playback to them.
The DLNA speakers I have come with an Android app that will stream online-radio to them, so somehow it is feeding streams to the speakers. I wonder how.

Bluetooth was considered, but I'd prefer a WiFi solution.

Bluetooth is a Wireless Protocol: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth

So how are your speakers connected to your Android Device ??

Yes I know that.
I would prefer a WiFi solution.

Yes and No.
I want to stream analog music to them. It's all part of something much bigger.
I failed to mention at first that I'd prefer a WiFi solution since these speakers do not do bluetooth.
Also the source (and r-pi) could be at one end of a very large building and the speakers at another. There is a wired and wifi network which covers the entire building.

Still do not have an idea what sort of speakers you have, without ALL the information, diagram ?, it is pointless replying any more :?

That's because YOU got sidetracked.

I asked two questions, the first was answered quickly and easily.
The second is just a simple question :-

Is it possible to stream audio from an analog source to a DLNA speaker?
You don't need to know the make and model.
