Re: POS Software?

Thu Sep 05, 2013 4:12 am

I have been following the post from dillyboy and found it interesting.
I too have need of a POS system for the raspberry Pi.
I did all of the installation instruction but got stuck in the removal of the tar files to the Pi for an old geezer like me, I also think that a step by step guide would not only be great but also desirable.
Please can you help in that respect.
It brings me back to the days when we used to make our own resistors and wind our own coils.
I am having loads of fun guys. Hats off to the guys at Cambridge

I'm working on one currently, in C# (I love python, but it'll just be too slow), focused on restaurants that also includes mobile clients. Hit me up if you've got more interest.

I am fairly certain cash drawers can be operated via a simple wire to most receipt printers. It looks similar to a phone cable.and is triggered via a code to the printer.

Regarding credit cards in any of this software, I haven't yet found any POS software that does proper credit card integration. Possibly because of PCI testing? What if we called functions already tested from an existing linux based system such as Magento? Can we get it to interface with Magento? I would think we can create a standard system such as that with an api which allows us to interact through software such as a POS program. The hard part is maintaining security of the credit cards. So whatever common program such as Magento would require a local app that is run that we have tested for PCI, then it would need to return results to the POS program.

Most of the Linux supported credit card software I am aware of is web based. If anyone has more information I would love to know.

We are in the final stages of developing a fully rounded Pi POS setup.

Using our custom application and the power of the Pi, we plan to do full implementation for customers or sell as kits / parts as needed. We also plan to donate part of profits to Raspberry Pi project for each sale made.

Do you have a link to view your software, and are you looking for resellers or would you be interested in discussing working together on some stuff? I have some stuff I have been working on..

Has anyone able to run the POS software (OpenBravo, uniCentaOpos, Lemon, etc) successfully? In term of the performance, could it handle more records interactively?
