USB Hub AC Extension

Fri Aug 12, 2016 9:32 pm

I'm putting together an rp build in a nes case. I bought a usb hub but would like to have an extension cable for the cord to plug in to. The rp will sit toward the back middle and won't have easy access for cables to plug into, which means lots of extension. Here is what I bought:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301859577570?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

The male end is about 2mm and the female is about 3mm. I did some searching online but couldn't find an exact match for extension.

This site looks promising but still not sure exactly what to buy: http://www.miniinthebox.com/popular/ac- ... apter.html.

I would also like to buy a power extension for the rp. It's a model 3 using a mini b usb plug. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Both ends will be the same nominal size, There are a number of different standard sizes, you will need to find the "right" one (one that fits at both ends, firm but not over tight).

On the whole, it's a bad idea. Keep the RPi cables short and thick. Long and/or thin cables will loose voltage at the normal working current of the Pi3B. Low voltage delivered to the Pi is probably the biggest cause of Pi problems.

I should be able to position the Pi so it's against the opening for the plug in the NES case. Would it do permanent damage if I try one in case the positioning is off?

I found one that should work. Thanks! :)

It's unlikely to do permanent damage. It will just give low voltage warnings (power LED off, etc) and USB peripherals/HDMI may not work. The SDCard filesystem can be damaged, so make sure you have a backup.
