looking for camera advice

Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:03 am

I'm working in a remote underwater vehicle and I need to find the way to hook up a camera to the PI. The problem that I have is the longest ribbon cable for the camera that I can find is 2 meters long. Not enough for what I need. Probably close to 20. There is something for the pi I can connect composite video in? Anybody tried to connect a long cable to the camera?

Thanks

Composite video interfaces are becoming a bit "old school". You could search for cameras that stream data over Ethernet.

If there is space for the Pi close to the camera you could also make your own streaming camera and use a 20 meter Ethernet cable for connecting the Pi+camera module to a local switch.

A program like VLC could connect to the stream and show the video.

Assuming this is attempting to connect an 'official' RPF camera module directly to the CSI connector?

Have you considered using a $5 RPiZero as the local interface for the camera and then transferring the image data by some other means such as a network connection (wifi or cabled) to your Primary RPi?
