Pi3 can't DHCP on some routers

Mon Jul 25, 2016 9:40 pm

Hello,
I've been struggling with a RPi3 that is having issues with ethernet. On one of my routers, it has trouble getting getting DHCP. I had to hook up the HDMI cable and monitor to it to figure out what was happening.

But when I hook up the Pi3 to another router, it DHCP's just fine. I have two other Pi2 that work fine with both routers. I've tried swapping ethernet cables, it seems to follow the Pi3 and consistently fails with one router but DHCP's fine with another.

What kinds of things can I look at to help troubleshoot? I'm a linux newbie.

Do all Pi's have a unique hostname? (run sudo raspi-config)
I suppose some routers might not like a duplicate hostname when delivering an IP address, even if the MAC address differs..

May help somebody if you mention the routers make and models.

Does the router see the Pi's in the routers tables?

All Pis fully updated?
