Second Bootup: SD Card Heats Up

My very first session with my new Raspberry Pi 3 and a LoveRPi 128GB Raspbian NOOBS UHS-I MicroSD Card worked perfectly. Cruised the Web, connected to my WiFi - all was well. Logged off/turned off using graphical interfaces "Turn Off" command.

But today, I plug it in, and no video - and the SD card gets to hot it cannot be touched. Steady red LED only - but I unplug it after a few seconds.

What could I have done incorrectly to cause this? Should I try a new NOOBS install from scratch?

There are a few different theories regarding this, the most common being fake cards being sold, which don't operate like they're supposed to (having 8GB of storage instead of 64, for instance).

The general consensus is that if you replace the card with one purchased from a local store (instead of online), you shouldn't have any more issues.
