Raspberry pi 3 compatibility question-Please read

Mon Jul 04, 2016 4:02 pm

I am soon going to buy a raspberry pi 3 model B with a 64gb micro sd card. I have lots of plans for it but first I want to try band build a supercomputer using 1 pi (Basically try and make it as near to a proper pc as possible). I wanted to add DVD playback (Sounds mad I know but here me out) but couldn't think of a way to do it for ages, I eventually came up with an idea but I am not sure if it would work and I was wondering if anyone here would know. Microsoft released a hd dvd player add on for the xbox 360 in November 2006 (If you don't know what HD DVD is just look it up) and connected to the console via usb. You can format this to connect to basically and PC or Laptop and use it as a external DVD drive. It plays normal DVD and HD DVD but normal DVD is what I want but I guess HD DVD is a good extra. I was just wondering if the Pi 3 would be able to handle it with a 64gb mini SD and would I need to install any programs? :D

The size of SD card is irrelevant to using an external DVD player so long as it is big enough to hold an OS that can run X windows, such as the full version of Raspbian. 8GB is big enough.

A cluster or supercomputer does not add any speed. And the Pi can already do DVD playback, just not encrypted ones legally (Kodi has libdvdcss).
There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.

You can buy USB DVD-RW drives, and floppies and ...
Laptop use them now they are rarely used, so can leave them out and reduce sizes.
