About power supply..

Thu Jun 30, 2016 1:54 pm

So I was reading this Safety Instructions that came with my new Pi 3 and I saw the first bullet:
"This product shall only be connected to an external power supply rated at 5V dc, and a minimum current of 2Amp. ..."

Can someone elaborate this part please, and give examples.
Replies are very much appreciated. Thank you

The raspberry Pi requires a power adapter that is rated for 5 volts output and can deliver at least 2 Amps.

Most power supplies will list the rating on a label.

The part about the external power supply is simply telling you that powering the Pi from the USB port is not something you should do.
You can run, but you will only die tired.

Yes. However be aware that most peoples problems reported here arise over power issues. Here are some pointers:

The 2A requirement is probably overkill where you don't have any power-hungry peripherals. Many people are fine running from quality 1.5A or lower rated supplies

The rating label on many (particularly cheap) power supplies is .... dubious...

Many USB cables have very thin wires in them that simply aren't up to the job of being used for that amount power

Quality supplies (such as the offical one) and quality cables with nice thick wires inside will result in a more stable experience.
