Raspberry Pi 3 not keeping time after reboot

I was changing the time on my raspberry pi 3 for testing and debugging purposes, and moving the clock caused no issues during reboot for testing. Now whenever I try to reboot the pi shows the wrong date and time (about 2 days into the future). I can set the correct time manually, but then when I reboot, it still shows the same wrong time I had earlier and will not keep the correct time. I tried setting the time using date -s and using the Time and Date feature on Ubuntu. Does anyone know how I can get the pi to keep the correct time when I set it?

Have you checked on the fake-hwclock to see if it stored the date when you fast-forwarded your system?
