Is my camera connector broken?

Sat Jun 18, 2016 8:00 pm

Hello all,

My raspberry pi camera got ripped out of its connectors on the raspberry pi plastic clip in connecting area. Unfortunately my servo motor twisted a bit further and faster than I though it would with my camera attached to it. Since then the camera won't light up or register that it is connected when connected to the pi at that port, but the Display port will allow it to light up. Due to this, I know that the ribbon cable is ok, so that leaves me to believe that the actual connecting port was damaged.

Does anyone have some suggestions as to what to do now? I need the camera module to work in order to move forward with building my bot, and I really don't want to get a new pi.

Check if the cable is securely connected on both the pi And the camera

It seems that they are both connected correct and securely, and I doubly checked their connection multiple times. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the issue

What about the yellow "sunny" connector? Somtimes that gets loose

Try another cable (they're not the toughest thing). Try your camera/new cable on another RPi. Try another (known good) camera/cable on your RPi.

When mine went last week, I tested the cable with a multimeter for continuity from end to end, it was fine even though we bend it double to look back under SenseHAT otherwise it obscures the LEDS or joystick, it is literally a sharp bend after the rigid bit, none of the cables have a problem with that.

anyway, turns out the camera module had disconnected it's connector from the circuit board (red ring) though in doing so where the glue held it down it had snapped the board sides corner off, ripping a pin up :-( (blue ring)

It's not glued. It's a press-fit. Apply some forefinger and thumb pressure and it should snap back into place.

So I tested the yellow cable and it still isn't working on the raspberry pi. I also tested it with a both the new and old cable on one of my friends pi's and with the older cable it worked just fine on his pi. I think it's on the connecting port on the actual pi, but everything seems fine? Is there a way to check if one of the internal pins is bent?

Thanks everyone for you help!

For some reason this on had a glue (glue gun glue?) in the corner holding it down to stop it coming off easily. No idea why, but it physically snapped the part connected to the board, I know they are snap fix other than that.

Oddly I've not checked my other cameras we bought later on an d noir to see if they are glued, I hadn't noticed this was until it didn't work.
(Note to self, must check and see if they)

Looking at the pi in front of me, all the legs are on the outside of the connector, just run up and down them for continuity with either the inside metal parts or the cable end ?

Good idea, but they look like they are all there and straight from just eyeballing it. I'm wondering if maybe it's not securing them tight enough when it's snapping shut on the cable. I did notice that I can push only on side of the cover down while closing it, but I don't know if that is normal or not seeing as I only have one pi right in front of me for testing.
